The Queensland Early Years Workforce Institute believes that the best workforce solutions are shaped with the people who know their regions best.
That is why Regional Workforce Planning Alliances will be a central feature of the Institute’s workforce planning and development model. Established across all fourteen Institute regions, these alliances will bring together educators, teachers, leaders, and the broader workforce to identify workforce priorities, explore challenges and opportunities, share insights and help shape future workforce development responses.
Regional Workforce Planning Alliances are designed to support an ongoing collaborative approach to workforce planning. By combining workforce intelligence, local knowledge and practice experience, they will help ensure workforce priorities and solutions are informed by the realities of each region while contributing to a broader statewide understanding of workforce needs.
No two regions are the same. Workforce challenges and opportunities in metropolitan areas can be very different from those experienced in rural and remote communities. Regional Alliances recognise these differences and create a mechanism for local voices, partnerships and collective action to influence workforce planning, investment and development over time.
As part of establishing this statewide model, the Institute will pilot its collaborative workforce planning approach between August 2026 and January 2027 in four regions: Gold Coast, Ipswich, Southwest Darling Downs and Far North Queensland. These pilot Regional Alliances will work alongside the Institute to trial and refine workforce planning processes, strengthen regional collaboration and test approaches to translating workforce insights into practical action.
The lessons from these pilots will inform the establishment of Regional Workforce Planning Alliances across all fourteen Institute regions, creating an enduring network for workforce collaboration, planning and development throughout Queensland.
Together, Regional Workforce Planning Alliances will help build a stronger understanding of workforce needs, foster regional collaboration and support practical, locally informed solutions that strengthen Queensland’s early years workforce now and into the future.
